Lauren Sonder

Lauren Sonder received her Bachelors of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in 1999, where she first studied piano and then majored in music history. She graduated with a Masters of Music in composition from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma in 2010. She enjoys performing in collaborative, community settings, and has performed locally at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, the Norman Public Library, the University of Oklahoma, Opolis, and Sonder Music, Dance & Art.
Ms. Sonder owned and ran Sonder Music, Dance & Art, a community arts school in downtown Norman, from 2008-2014. She transitioned to a home piano studio in 2014. Ms. Sonder believes in providing a well rounded approach to music learning that emphasizes training the ear, learning music in different styles, and being creatively engaged at the piano. Her areas of interest include Music Learning Theory, wellness at the piano, and composition. Her thoughts on piano teaching can be found in her blog.
Ms. Sonder formerly served on the boards of the Oklahoma Composers Association and the Norman Arts Council. In 2014, she was honored to be named Fowler Arts Educator of the Year by Fowler Volkswagen and the Norman Arts Council.
