PianoPlus! Lessons
Sondermusic's
PianoPlus! lessons expose students to a wide variety of musical experiences:
Listening and Response: students are exposed to different kinds of music through listening, including traditional Western Classical (Medieval-Modern), Jazz, World, Rock & Roll, Country, Bluegrass and Hip-Hop. Students respond to what they hear verbally, in writing, and through visual art mediums.*
Music Theory: students learn how to read music through a variety of activities such as singing,* playing rhythm instruments, written exercises and piano sight-reading.
Music Appreciation/History: students read and respond to books and articles about music history and different musical traditions.
Traditional Piano Skills: students learn traditional piano technique and play music from a variety of time periods and genres (including, but not limited to, Western Classical Music).
Improvisation: additional time is spent at the piano exploring improvisation. Students are encouraged to compose their own music.
Group Workshops: Students ages 3-6 participate in creative movement workshops,* where they develop musical instincts such as rhythm and phrasing, while having lots of fun! Students ages 7 and up collaborate on performances or composition activities during group workshops.
Performances: students are encouraged to participate in performance showcases with other students. Students and parents are also encouraged to attend local performing arts events.
* The comfort level of each individual student with respect to singing, visual art and creative movement determines if these techniques are incorporated into their lessons.
