What other services do you offer?
- Lesson readiness varies from child to child, however, students as young as 4 years old may be ready for lessons.
How much do lessons cost?
- I offer lessons year round; the studio year contains 38 weeks of instruction. Full details are available in the Studio Policy. Please contact me for more details.
What approach/method do you use?
- I value a well-rounded approach to music learning that includes ear training, learning music in a variety of styles, learning to improvise, music theory and history, and more. I use many different methods and materials. Please contact me for more information!
Do students need a piano or can they use a keyboard?
- An in-tune, acoustic piano is a must. I strongly advise against purchasing a digital piano, even one with touch-sensitive, weighted keys, because they have far less sensitivity than an acoustic instrument. There are often used acoustic pianos available for the same price that will work as a suitable instrument for a beginner. I have had great success finding reasonably priced pianos for my students.
How much do students need to practice?
- Daily, quality practice is essential to a student's progress and enjoyment in piano. Beginner level students should practice approximately 15-30 minutes a day (depending on age); early intermediate level students, approximately 40-60 minutes a day; late intermediate/early advanced level students, approximately 60 minutes a day or more (more about practicing in this blog post).
Do you teach adults?
- Yes! I love teaching adults, including beginners. It's never too late to start piano lessons!
Do you do recitals?
- Yes! There are two studio recitals a year—generally one in the Fall and one in the Spring. Students enrolled in group lessons have many additional opportunities to perform informally for peers.
What other services do you offer?
- In addition to piano lessons, I offer composition and theory lessons. I am also available for music transcription and engraving services.
